    Introduction and Biblical reflection

In this course we’re going to look deeply at what it means to be a healthy leader. In Christian organisations around the world, we need leaders! But not just “leaders” – we need “healthy leaders”!

Before you start building something, you will usually have a good understanding of what it is and a blueprint of some kind – a picture of your goal.

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? (Luke 14:28)

Likewise, for us to be healthy leaders ourselves and to build healthy leaders we must first know what a healthy leader is! In Christian leadership and leader development, we must first have the right goal. Let’s now consider what that is.

Who was the perfect Leader? Of course, it was Jesus!
We can learn a lot from Jesus about being a leader and building other Christian leaders.

So, before we get into the specific goal of Christian leader development, let’s first think deeply about Jesus’ life and leadership.

Please read the following Scriptures and, in one statement, answer this question:

What was the nature of Jesus’ leadership?

    • John 7:14-16
    • John 8:26-29
    • John 5:19-20
    • John 5:30
    • John 14:7-10

    Some additional passages are: John 3:34; 8:38-40; 12:44-45, 49-50; 14:23-24; 17:6-7; 1:18.
