Pray and plan your own path of growth

It is important to recognise that a “healthy” leader is not a “perfect” leader. Most of us would consider our physical bodies to be relatively healthy. But not many of us would consider our body to be physically “perfect”! This is an important distinction for Christian leaders.

Our goal is most definitely not to be perfect leaders! Perfection is a hard taskmaster. It is unachievable and to pursue it will make you drive yourself and others. You will never be perfect. But you can be healthy, and you can build healthy leaders.

The 5C Model and 5C Indicators will help you to be healthy by providing:

    • A clear path for evaluating your own life and leadership.
    • A clear goal for personal growth and for helping others to grow in life and ministry (informal training).
    • A clear goal for designing training programs (non-formal and formal training).
    • A clear way to evaluate training – both the training itself and its effectiveness.
    • A tool for diagnosing areas in a leader’s life or ministry that are causing problems.
    • A basis for mutual accountability.
    • A basis for prayer for emerging and existing leaders. Please see the tool: 5C Prayer Guide.
    • A basis for effective whole-life coaching. Please see the tool: 5C Coaching Questions.
    • A common language for a unified organisational culture of healthy leadership and leader development.

As you think about your own plan for personal growth, please prayerfully reflect on each of the 5Cs.

A wooden stave barrel will only hold water to the height of its shortest stave!

    Identify in your own life:

    • In which of the 5Cs are you personally the strongest?
    • The weakest?

As you pray, quietly wait on the Lord, asking Him to convict you where you need it and to change you. Please write down what the Holy Spirit shows you.

Then, in your next meeting with your spiritual mother or father, or mentor, please share what God has shown you, ask for their prayer, and together make a plan for your growth.

Finally, please establish a monthly day of “Spiritual Rest” in your life – a day when you spend time with God. Please see the tool: “Designs for Spiritual Rest.” It will give you practical guidance on exactly how to do this.
