    Attributes of ideal board members:

    • Luke 6:12-13: “Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples, and chose from among them twelve, whom he named apostles.”
    • In scripture there are 3 ways in which people are chosen for service:
      • God chooses them directly: Acts 9.
      • God sends men to do the choosing, but he tells them whom to choose: (Genesis 24), (1 Samuel 16).
      • Men choose men using a list of attributes: (Exodus 18), Acts 6, 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
    • Attributes of board members:
      • First Foundational items
      • Capacity and Commitment
      • Interpersonal Qualities
      • Technical Expertise

    Defining the spiritual attributes we desire in board members:

    • 1 Tim 3:1-13 – Overseers (Elders) and Deacons (ESV)
    • Titus 1:4-9 – Elders (ESV)

    Leaders guide questions:

    • What attributes have you identified in your board members that are ideal for your organisation?
    • Which attributes do you think are still needed in your board members?
    • What attributes do you think you possess?
    • What gaps do you have and how might you close those gaps?
