Case study: Building our own children

Malcolm used the 5C and 4D models to build my own children, he says:

“When my eldest son was 15, I took him with me to Asia.

He came to a training we did for the top leaders of one of the national church-planting networks. He was exposed to their lives and testimonies (Relational). He even personally addressed them one day, affirming them and thanking them for their example of faithfulness (challenging assignment, Experiential). Then he accompanied some friends to a remote part of the nation and lived there for several months with a young church-planter who could not speak English (Experiential). After those several months, he traveled by himself (via foot, bus, train and plane) from the far southwest of the large country to the far northeast to accompany me at another training for leaders from a different church-planting network (Experiential). During that training we had various intense security issues that forced us to look to God for His deliverance (Spiritual). During both trainings my son received lots of teaching (Instructional).

Several months later, after he had turned 16, he went back to this nation and led a team of men, much older than himself, in building a home for disabled children (Experiential).

Today he is strong in God, a very successful entrepreneur and healthy leader, a wonderful son, husband and father.”
