Case study: Simple design in a local church

The leaders of a local church in Asia embraced these models and recognised that every ministry in the church is, in reality, an opportunity to build people, and not only to do the ministry work. They then provided some simple designs for each ministry to accomplish this. Here is the design they made for the worship ministry.

    Your turn!

Now, let’s repeat the same process but this time please make a design for someone else you’d like to help grow. It might be your child, co-worker, friend or an emerging leader you’re working with.

Please follow the same simple process:

    • Define the goal.
    • Define the process. Use the blank Four Dynamic Design Worksheet that follows.
    • Make the specific design.

Let’s work now on some specific designs that you can use – both in your own life and in the lives of others around you.

We will begin by creating a design for your own personal growth.

    First, define the goal

    Always start with the goal.
Pray about the 5Cs and identify one of them in which you need to grow.

Now, using the list of 5C Indicators, go deeper within that “C” and choose one of the specific indicators to work on. Write that here:

That gives you a clear goal.

    Second, define the process.

Using the Dynamics of Transformation Chart, identify specific things you can do in order to grow in your chosen area.

Prayerfully, make a list of these ideas in the blank “Four Dynamic Design Worksheet” that follows. Make sure you include at least one robust idea in each of the four quadrants.

    Third, make the design.

Make your specific design by answering these questions:

    • When will this take place?
    • How long will it take?
    • Where will it take place?
    • What resources (people, materials, opportunities, etc.) will you need to accomplish this?
    • What is the step-by-step plan you will follow?

There is no “one way” that design must be done. Every design is different. Do what works for you.
